Old Bags Lunch

Former Queensland Premier Anna Bligh inspired Toowoomba woman as guest speaker at the Old Bags Lunch.

While the event name is actually very literal, it provided the opportunity to talk about all the things a generation now considered to be "old bags" managed to achieve.

The Old Bags Lunch is an initiative of YWCA Queensland designed to raise funds for domestic violence support through the auction of handbags used and donated by some of the country's most influential women.

The event also launched Queensland Women's Week celebrations for YWCA Queensland.

The YWCA Old Bags lunch Bags donated by politicians like Julie Bishop and Annastacia Palaszczuk and actress Isabelle Lucas were in high demand, with the top price going to a bag from Sam Armytage at $400.

For the winning bidder Kirsten Tydings, it ticked all the boxes and capped off a brilliant afternoon.

"Obviously it helps local women in need," she said.

"I purchased it because it went with my dress, so that was really great.

"I also really admire Sam Armytage; I thinks she's great and it's a very very good cause all about empowering women."
